KUCHING: Kampung Haji Baki in the Kuching Division and Kampung Baru in the Samarahan area, which were previously designated as high-risk areas for drug-related concerns, have now attained a green status.

“Continuous efforts will be made to maintain this green status through collaboration from all parties, utilising the strategies of Prevention, Enforcement, and Treatment and Recovery programmes based on five main strategies.

“The five strategies are, preventing new addicts, maintaining the recovery rate, improving the detection of drug addicts, enhancing agency, community cooperation and involvement and curtailing drug entry,” said Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, during a press conference at the Anti-Drug Action Council (MTMD) held at Baitul Makmur II yesterday (Nov 1).

He also said that the implementation of the Mobile Recovery Treatment (MRT) programme will be expanded to six correctional facilities in Sarawak, including the Central Prisons in Kuching, Sri Aman, Sibu, Miri, Limbang and the Bintulu Correctional Centre.

“Additionally, 38 Drug Recovery Committees (JKPD) under the supervision of AADK have been established in the districts of Sarawak, bringing the total to 45.

“JKPD is a committee overseen by AADK, comprising individuals with diverse skills, expertise and community experience.

“It functions as a supportive and complementary body, aiding AADK in the planning, coordination and execution of programmes designed to help AADK clients reintegrate into society,” he explained.

Furthermore, he mentioned that over the past two years, the government has effectively supported 2,874 drug addicts in accessing treatment and recovery services within the community via the AADK district offices.

Additionally, 181 individuals have completed treatment and recovery at the Narcotic Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen).
