Two youths arrested for reckless driving in Sibu racing incident

SIBU: Two youths were apprehended by the police for turning Jalan Awang Ramli Amit at Dataran Sibu into their own racing circuit.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the operation, codenamed ‘Op Samseng Jalanan,’ was conducted from 10pm until 3.30am on Friday (July 28) by officers from the Sibu District Police Headquarters.

“During the operation, three motorists were inspected, and two of them were arrested,” he said.

The two motorists, aged 17 and 15, are currently under investigation for reckless and dangerous driving, under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, as per Zulkipli’s statement today (July 30).

Zulkipli added that several other motorists were also issued summons for various traffic offences, including driving without a licence, having fancy number plates, lacking side mirrors, non-functional brakes, and using modified exhaust systems.

Meanwhile, he urged everyone to abide by traffic laws and reminded parents to closely monitor their children, ensuring they always follow the rules.
