MIRI: The Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is expected to attend and pay his last respects today (Thursday) to the former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam’s mother, Leong Lai Wah, who died last Tuesday in Miri.

Taib is expected to arrive at 11am today.

Leong, 103, is to be buried today at Riam Chinese Cemetery.

Miri mayor Adam Yii and former mayor Datuk Wee Han were among dignitaries paying their last respects to Leong at her residence in Tanjong Lobang here yesterday morning. Also present was Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

Others expected to pay their last respects later were Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting and former president of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Tan Sri Datuk Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui.

Present to receive mourners were Dr Chan and his wife Datuk Lorna Enan Muloon, his siblings and relatives.
