SIBU: The Rajang Port Authority (RPA) needs to explore any means to improve itself, including acquiring new technologies.

Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this when attending a briefing on RPA’s development, problems and achievements during a visit to its main office here on Friday (Jan 21).

He said this was to prepare itself for the challenges when the economy recovers.

“Once the economy improves, business will improve.

“Are you able to cope in terms of software, equipment, more investments and the likes?”

Uggah said ports in Sarawak were also expected to play more distinguished roles in line with the vision to be a high income state by 2030.

At the same time, Uggah suggested that RPA and Tanjung Manis ports come up with plans to support each other instead of competing.

“It is a unique situation where the two ports are located on the same river.”
