KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak is organising a motorcycle convoy from Sept 15-18 called ‘Konvoi Bermotosikal Misi Kemerdekaan dan Akademik’ in conjunction with Malaysia Day.

It is a joint effort between UiTM and UiTM Sarawak Alumni Association (Mitsa), and will involve 20 UiTM staff.

UiTM rector Prof Datuk Jamali Hamali said that one of the objectives was to promote the academic programmes offered by UiTM at the designated destinations — Asajaya, Sibu, Dalat and Mukah.

“We would like to take this opportunity to reach out to the students in those areas.

“We are commemorating Malaysia Day, and at the same time, we want to promote the programmes offered by the university,” he said at the flag-off on Monday (Sept 14) at the UiTM campus here.

Jamali pointed out that the event also allowed UiTM staff to foster closer ties with each other and to encourage better teamwork.

“This convoy is a team effort, not a competition to see who reaches the destination first or who’s the fastest.

“I hope that everyone involved will take care of themselves during the journey and reach the destination safely.”

Meanwhile, Mitsa president Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz said that he was proud that UiTM had produced thousands of Bumiputera graduates since its establishment.

“We support UiTM’s efforts and we want to see more Bumiputeras furthering their studies at UiTM.” “Students in rural areas may not be aware of the opportunities available so this is a noble cause.”
