BINTULU: The Sarawak government, via the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), presented a cheque for RM200,000 to aid in the construction of the church in Sungai Mas here.
The handover took place on today (Sept 8), with Unifor director Datuk Jack Aman Luat presenting the funding to Pastor Winston, the representative of the Good Samaritan Chapel.
This ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Majang Renggi, who is also the Samalaju assemblyman.
The allocated funds will contribute to the church’s construction expenses, ensuring that worshippers can enjoy a safe and comfortable environment. The construction of the chapel commenced on Dec 31, 2022, and was successfully completed by May 31.
Pastor Winston expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Sarawak government for its substantial contribution, which played a pivotal role in the realisation of the project.
Established in 2017, Unifor’s primary mission is to protect and promote the interests and wellbeing of other religions in Sarawak.
Through Unifor, the Sarawak government has set aside a dedicated budget to assist in the construction, repair, and enhancement of places of worship and related facilities for various religious denominations.
