KUCHING: The structured settings of uniformed bodies play a critical role in fostering leadership qualities, teamwork, and a sense of duty among students.

Michael Kong, the special assistant to Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen, praised the Girls’ Brigade’s efforts in shaping future leaders through the Young Leader’s Preliminary Training and Basic Officers’ Training programmes.

“Drawing from my personal experiences with uniformed clubs, including the Scouts and the National Cadet Corps, I can attest to the vital lessons and experiences these groups offer. They are instrumental in character building and instilling discipline in the youth.

“Activities like drills, camps, and community services not only teach accountability, perseverance, and the value of service but also forge a sense of community and lasting friendships. These experiences create a support network that fosters personal growth and resilience,” said Kong during the programme launching recently.

Kong also thanked the volunteers, instructors, and organisers for their invaluable contribution to the youth’s development.

“Through these trainings, participants gain essential knowledge and guidance, benefiting significantly from the experience. I applaud the dedication of all involved in making such programmes a reality, embodying the spirit of service and community integral to uniformed clubs,” he added.
