UNIMAS celebrates outstanding Alumni at Icon Awards Gala Night

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Alumni Icon Awards Gala Night 2023 marked a significant occasion for the university as it recognized exceptional alumni in various fields.

With a total of 59,994 alumni from 61 countries worldwide, UNIMAS vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit said the event plays a crucial role in fostering a strong sense of connection and collaboration among alumni.

“It is hoped that with such a programme, it can enhance the spirit of love for UNIMAS among alumni, besides providing opportunities for collaboration between alumni and UNIMAS management,” he said in his speech during the award ceremony held at Arena Gemilang, DeTAR PUTRA, UNIMAS here last night (Feb 24).

The event organised by UNIMAS Alumni Relations Department, Student Development Centre (PPP), also aims to strengthen relationships among the university alumni.

He said the programme is also part of the activities to celebrate the upcoming UNIMAS Alumni Day on August 9, providing a platform to showcase the university’s latest developments and alumni contributions.

Present to officiant at the award ceremony was Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah.

Among the highlights include the presentation of the UNIMAS Alumni Arts Icon Award 2023 to popular actor Azhan Rani, who is also an alumnus of the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FSGK) 2002.

Additionally, the UNIMAS Distinguished Alumni Icon Award 2023 was presented to date palm producer Ahmad Tamar, Syed Muhammad Hamdi Syed Ahmad, an alumnus of the Faculty of Engineering (FK) 2017.

Following that, the UNIMAS Academic Icon Award 2023 was awarded to Prof Dr Mohammad Saffree Jeffree, an alumnus of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK) 2000.

The UNIMAS Uniformed Body Icon Award 2023 was presented to Mejar (Dr) Hanis Izzat Ali Shubra Mullisi, an alumnus of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK) 2013.

Next, Adillah Ismail, an alumnus of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSK) 2003, received the UNIMAS Volunteer Icon Award 2023.

The UNIMAS Administrative Icon Award 2023 was presented to Lau Yew Nen, who is also an alumnus of the Faculty of Engineering (FK) 2004.

The UNIMAS Sports Icon Award 2023 was awarded to Rapelson Richard Hamit, an alumnus of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSK) 2009.

Additionally, Jefry Ab Talib, an alumnus of the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FSGK) 1998, received the UNIMAS Entrepreneurial Icon Award 2023.

Cindy Yeo Siaw Hui, an alumnus of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEP) 2018, received the UNIMAS Special Icon Award 2023.

Meanwhile, 10 alumni from each faculty at UNIMAS also received the UNIMAS Young Hopeful Icon Award 2023.
