SIBU: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to make a major announcement on the urban renewable plan for Sibu soon.

This was revealed by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian to the media after distributing ‘bubur lambuk’ at Darul Firdaus Mosque, Jalan Apollo here on Sunday.

Dr Sim, who is also the Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government said it would be good news for Sibu residents.

“Certainly this (the announcement later) will be envied by other places. I can assure you that Abang Johari will make a big announcement soon on Sibu urban renewable plan.

“With the announcement, Sibu will be rebuilt over the next 10 to 15 years.

“So, other places will be very ‘jealous’ of Sibu which has a big urban renewable plan,” he said.

He said the main reason for the re-development plan given priority was because it covered the Bukit Assek area which was their commitment to fulfill as promised in the last election manifesto.

“Like I said, a vote for Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang Ming Tee and Bukit Assek assemblyman Chieng Jin Ek is a vote for me too.

“So … of course I will try my best to come down to Sibu every month so that together, we can see what the issue is and then we can resolve it faster,” he added.

He said both the Pelawan and Bukit Assek constituencies were long left behind in terms of development and needed to catch up with other areas as soon as possible.
