KUCHING:  Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan has questioned Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s confidence in securing a simple majority to form the government and become the prime minister after the 15th general election (GE15).

“Anwar came with Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary general Anthony Loke last Saturday (to Sarawak) to drum up support for him to be the prime minister but I would like to know the basis of his confidence,” Voon told a press conference at a local coffeeshop here, today (Nov 15).

He also questioned Anwar’s ability to do things for the benefit of Sarawak and his sincerity in wanting the state to prosper.

“I believe he can be a good prime minister, no doubt, but I personally doubt whether he would help Sarawak to get back its lost rights.

“The reason is when PH toppled Barisan Nasional (BN) in 2018 and became the government for 22 months, they fell short of fulfilling promises in their manifesto to grant 20 percent oil royalty and give back 50 percent of all taxes collected from Sarawak.

“It was written in the book of Tommy Thomas that it was actually a simple thing to do to grant us what we deserved,” Voon added.

Voon also doubted if PH and DAP Sarawak trusted each other as the latter was using its own symbol to contest in Sarawak, as opposed to the pact in the peninsula where they were contesting under the PH logo.

“Either this shows that DAP Sarawak has lost confidence in the leadership of Anwar or DAP Sarawak knows Sarawakians have no confidence in PH and at the same time having no confidence in Anwar to fulfil Sarawak’s demands.

“This strategy that they are using is confusing and mindboggling. Perhaps it also could be that Anwar hasno confidence that DAP Sarawak is going to support him, otherwise they would have used the same logo for this election.

“We seriously need some clarification from DAP Sarawak or Anwar himself,” Voon said.

Voon asked DAP Sarawak to free itself from the clutches of PH if it does not believe in PH and join the local parties to fight against the domination of Malayan parties.

“Another option is for them to withdraw from the election and let us (local opposition parties) determine who should represent Sarawakians in Parliament,” he said.

Among those present at the press conference was Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) candidate for Stampin Lue Cheng Hing.
