KUCHING: The Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) plays a very crucial role in keeping the nation together and it is an important historical document, said Senate President Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

“For the way forward, the federal government must continue to engage and accommodate the  promises in the MA63 bundle of Constitutional documents that laid the foundation for the formation of Malaysia,” he said.

Wan Junaidi said this during a chat session organised by the United Kingdom Graduates Association and a group of Malaysian diaspora  at the Jasmine Restaurant in London on yesterday (Oct 8).

During the session, he also shared the historical formation of the Federated Malay States in 1895 to the evolution of Federal Council 1909, Federal Agreement 1948 and Independence of Malaya in 1957.

“I have also touched on the related agreements, including the Pangkor Agreement 1874, Malaya Agreement 1957 to the formation of Malaysia in 1963 and the significance of the MA63,” he said.

He said the ongoing process, implementing the promises in the MA63, is not only important for Sarawak and Sabah, but for the nation as a whole.

“I would also like to call upon the Malaysian diaspora to continue to support the efforts of the federal and state governments to ensure all the promises in MA63 become reality,” said Wan Junaidi.
