Unlike laptops and PCs, that phone in your pocket is often left running for days and even weeks at a time. Do it a favour and give it a restart from time to time.

Anyone with an Android or Apple smartphone who makes sure to regularly restart it will be helping to keep their device in good shape.

That’s because when your phone gets restarted, Android will perform some practical processes, including a cleanup of the device’s memory cleanup, deleting temporary files and optimising storage management.

If you find yourself leaving your phone on for weeks at a time, a weekly reminder on your phone’s calendar can be a good way to regularly prompt yourself to do a quick restart.

If you notice apps loading slowly or a lag in response times after days of use, a quick reboot may also help.

Forcing a restart by letting your battery dwindle down to 0 per cent isn’t a good way to routinely turn off your phone, however. Manufacturers say you’ll get more life out of a modern smartphone’s battery if you charge it before it drops below 15 per cent. – dpa
