KUCHING: A woman was sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM4,000 by a Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday (Feb 10) for theft.
Zur Kamiena Aida Kamal, 31, pleaded guilty to the charge, which was read out by an interpreter before magistrate Zaiton Anuar.
Based on the charge, she stole items from a supermarket in Jalan Matang here at about 8pm on March 3, 2021.
The items were six bottles of shampoo worth RM69, a unit of bicycle flashlight worth RM39 and nine units of deodorant worth RM47.70.
She was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which if convicted, carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
According to the facts of the case, the supermarket supervisor saw a woman acting suspiciously.
The CCTV footage later showed that the woman had stolen some items.
Immediately, the supervisor asked for permission to inspect the handbag belonging to the woman and found the stolen items.
The supervisor then handed over the woman to the police for further action.
