Woman loses her life savings in love scam

MIRI: A 52 year-old woman lost her life savings of RM120,900 to a man she met on a social networking site.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said, they received a report on the incident on April 29 (Saturday).

The victim is a staff of a public school here.

Alexson said the victim had befriended a man on an Instagram application on mid August last year (2022).

“Over the next four months, the couple grew closer and the man had asked the victim to make money transactions and she duly obliged,” Alexson added

A total 13 money transactions via online were made by the victim into a third party bank account from December 13 in 2022 to February 28 this year amounting to RM120,900.

The victim felt cheated when her calls were blocked and she immediately lodged a police report last Saturday (April 29).
