KUCHING: In the latest data by the Malaysia Statistical Business Register published by the Department of Statistics, women’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) contributed to the country’s economic growth, said Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

Hasidah, who is also the Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations), stated that there were 1,226,494 SMEs in 2021.

“As a result, the majority of our women entrepreneurs work in these establishments. Unleashing their economic power is one of the most important strategies for achieving growth, dynamism, and innovation in the national and global economies.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we were all affected and we recovered comparatively with the help of the Sarawak government, which has prepared RM7 billion to help the people who are severely affected while also producing the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 to give people opportunities,” she said.

She made the remarks after officiating at the Sarawak Bumiputera Chamber of Entrepreneurs (DUBS) 2022 Women’s Conference at Merdeka Palace here yesterday.

According to a press statement, the conference being organised by Dewanita DUBS Negeri (a Sarawak-based women’s NGO), would bring together businesswomen and Dewanita DUBS members from across Sarawak.

The session will expose women to post-COVID tactics and the next steps in their businesses. They intend to improve participants’ knowledge and perspectives through sharing from experts and successful businesses on connected themes.

The programme’s goal is to provide a platform for women entrepreneurs to learn, share, and empower one another during difficult times so that they can rise together and develop successful enterprises.

Among the conference’s objectives are to encourage knowledge sharing to boost entrepreneurs’ morale and spirit among women entrepreneurs Post COVID 19, gauge new ways and strategies for women to shine and excel in their business, empower women entrepreneurs to support each other during difficult times, and encourage new entrepreneurs to join the Dewanita DUBS community.
