MIRI: Eleven women from the interior were shown the ropes on fire safety and ways to handle an emergency in the event of a fire in their homes here Saturday.

The one-day Celik Suri programme held under the auspices of the Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 6 saw the women from the Long Atip Telang Usan Resident Association getting insights on common accidents and how to deal with them, such as leakages from cooking gas cylinders which can lead to explosions and gas stove fires.

The programme conducted at the Lopeng fire station was launched by Zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong who emphasised the need for women, particularly housewives, to have the necessary skills to protect their families should a fire break out.

“It is crucial for women to have awareness and knowledge on how to deal with various situations involving fires,” he said.
