KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) reached another significant milestone recently, with the handover of the Rembus Depot Mechanical Workshop and Operation Control Centre (OCC) platform site to its contractor.

Sarawak Metro project director Zafrin Zakaria symbolically hands over the site to the contractor recently.

“The contractor is a joint venture company comprising Azam Sehasrat Sdn Bhd, IJM Construction Sdn Bhd and Unique Deco Sdn Bhd, for the commencement of work for the depot,” it said in a statement posted at its official Facebook wall.

Located in Kota Samarahan and covering an area of about 54 acres, the Rembus Depot will house a stabling yard, hydrogen refuelling facilities, test track, mechanical workshop, infrastructure workshop and an administration building and operation control centre.

The Rembus Depot is scheduled to begin operation in the fourth quarter of 2025, coinciding with the opening of Stage 1 of the ART passenger service for the Blue Line.
