MIRI: The state-level Youth Forum competition here has been hailed as a valuable platform for nurturing the creative and critical thinking skills of the youth.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg pointed out that these skills are crucial for Sarawak’s advancement and prosperity by 2030, aligning with the state government’s vision.

During the event on today (July 6), Sarawak Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus read a text speech on behalf of Abang Johari.

“We need to ensure that the younger generation is able to think globally and recognise the nation’s future significance,” he said.

Abang Johari highlighted that organising such competitions can produce students who are not only creative and innovative but also sensitive to the pressing issues surrounding them.

Participants from SMK Riam, Miri, who emerged as the champion, posing with their winnings together with their teachers.

“Developing these abilities will equip students with emotional and intellectual intelligence to navigate the challenges that lie ahead.”

Furthermore, he underscored the importance of the Malay language as the national and official language of the country.

Thus, he deemed it fitting to hold various intellectual programmes, including the Youth Forum, to support the government’s language policy.

Abang Johari expressed his belief that competitions of this nature indirectly contribute to fostering a culture of knowledge among students, aligning with the state government’s commitment to producing intellectually astute citizens with noble character.

In the competition results, SMK Riam, Miri emerged as the champion, securing the prestigious Sarawak TYT Challenge Trophy, RM2,500 cash prize, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) published books, and a recognition certificate.

SMK St Luke, Sri Aman secured the second position, winning RM2,000 cash prize, DBP published books and a recognition certificate.

Meanwhile, SMK Suai, Miri claimed the third spot, receiving RM1,000 cash prize, DBP published books and a recognition certificate.
