KUCHING: As everyone is getting ready to celebrate the Lunar New Year tomorrow, 26 youths, aged 13 to 19, from the Faith Methodist Church (FMC) Junior Youth Methodist Fellowship visited Aunty Chin Chin Fah, a 70-year-old lady, living alone deep within a palm plantation at Tarat Jaya, Serian.

The actions of the FMC Junior Youth Methodist Fellowship made Hope Place proud of the efforts made by the youth group. Hope Place also applauds the strong family values and care for the less fortunate in the community instilled within this group of young people.

These youths came together bringing festive decorations and goodies to add some festivities to her home. Besides that, they helped her paint her house, cut grass, pulled some weed and cleaned her home compound, leaving her house spotless in time for the Lunar New Year celebrations.

Other than decorating and repainting her home, the FMC Junior Youth Methodist Fellowship also left Aunty Chin with an angpow and wished her all the best.

“Our youths are happy to be able to help aunty to clean her house, especially during this season, where everyone is doing spring cleaning. Although what we do may be little, we hope to show our love to everyone,” said Luke Wong, who is mentor and advisor of the youth group.

Aunty Chin is one of those unfortunate people who are under the care of Hope Place Kuching, and the NGO started helping her and her only son in 2020 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, in 2021, her only son was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident. Although Aunty Chin has a stepson who visits her providing food and necessities, he and his family live far away. Hence, Aunty Chin has to fend for herself, which is challenging for her as she relies on a wheelchair to perform daily household chores and cooking.

If you would like to help the less unfortunate just like Aunty Chin, all donations are welcomed, and can be donated direct to Hope Place’s Maybank Account: 5112 8900 1160, or through Sarawak Pay / S Pay GLOBAL QR Code which is available on https://www.facebook.com/hopeplacekuching.
