BAU: A local young lad was arrested for pulling off a dangerous ‘wheelie’ stunt along Jalan Tondong-Apar-Segong on Sunday (Feb 26).

A spokesman from the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department said the operation codenamed ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ was carried out by 15 personnel.

During the operation, they spotted and detained the 18-year-old rider who was performing a dangerous ‘wheelie’ stunt with his motorcycle for about 50 metres on the left lane.

For that action, the suspect is being investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for riding his motorcycle dangerously.

If convicted, the suspect may face a jail term of up to five years and be fined up to RM15,000.

Throughout the operation, the team also issued a total of 18 summonses for various traffic offences to motorists after inspecting 10 individuals using six motorcycles.

The team also confiscated two motorcycles for various offences.

In view of the school holiday season, parents are advised to monitor children’s activities to ensure that negative symptoms can be curbed for the safety of their children and other road users.
