KUCHING: Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has commended the youth from his constituency for showing great support to the ‘Kembara Semarak Merdeka 2021’ programme last Saturday (Sept 11).

The Asajaya assemblyman said it is important for Malaysians, especially the youth to appreciate and value the meaning of the country’s independence.

“This is because independence is very significant, it must be defended by the youth who are inheriting it from the nation’s leaders from the past.

“As this is of great significance, the government has organised various programmes in conjunction with the independence month. It is to create awareness and instil understanding among the people, especially the youth,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports in a Facebook post yesterday (Sept 13).

Abdul Karim pointed out that the young generation are fortunate for inheriting independence that have enabled them to live comfortably and in peace.

He also urged everyone to continue strengthening the existing unity in the state as well as country’s multiracial and multi-ethnic community.

“Unity is crucial because it contributes to the establishment of effective administration, political stability and social peace in ensuring development takes place for our state and country,” he added.
