MIRI: More young people here are encouraged to donate their blood to ensure sufficient supply at Miri Hospital blood bank.

“While we retain the number of current group of blood donors and some of them are getting older (in their 60’s), that is why we must encourage young people to take part in blood-drive activities to ensure sufficient blood supplies,” said Minister of Transport cum Miri Division Disaster Management Committee minister-in-charge Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin on Sunday.

Lee was met at a Valentine’s Day blood donation activity at the Malaysian Red Crescent, Miri Branch, Training Institute, Jalan Bulan Sabit here.

“Although there isn’t an age limit to blood donations, we are concerned about their wellbeing (those in their senior-aged, 60 and above)  in the process (donating blood),” Lee said.

The event was organised by MRC, Miri branch Blood Donor Recruitment Committee in collaboration with the Moving Communities Team and Miri Indian Association.
