KUCHING: The Zakat counter payment may not be open at public places if the movement control order (MCO) is still in effect, said Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS).
According to TBS headquarters officer Ahmad Termizi Saini, the setting up of the counter at shopping malls, government offices, mosques or suraus will only to be considered upon request by those who require them to supply its Amil Zakat Fitrah service.
“This will also be subjected to the development of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Thus, the Amil service, according to a statement issued by TBS yesterday, will be based at home.
TBS also said that it will provide items such as face masks and hand sanitisers to all 779 Amils.
It added that Amils might be placed at certain suraus or masjids for them to collect the zakat, but this depends on the development of the MCO order.
Meanwhile, Muslims can also pay their zakat online via Baitulmal Kamek, MyEG, Maybank2U and Snap N Pay Customer Portal.
On the distribution of its annual ‘Zakat Fitrah’ coupon, TBS said that the coupon will only to be distributed for those residing in green zone areas.
It also stated that the Sahibus Samahah Mufti of Sarawak has set the Zakat Fitrah rate for this year to be RM7 per person and can be paid from the first day of Ramadan until its last day.
