KABONG: A block of shophouses at Kampung Hilir here was engulfed in flames early in the morning today (June 29).
Fortunately, no one was injured in the 2.50am incident involving 10 shophouse units near SJKC Kabong.
Firemen from the Saratok station were promptly despatched to the scene, about 50km from the station, after they received a distress call.
By the time the firefighters arrived at the scene, the shophouses were destroyed.
The fire was brought under control around 4.25am.The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still being ascertained.
Police and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SESCO) personnel were at the scene to lend a helping hand.
