100 attend first-ever forensics tech conference

SIBU: Some 100 government officials attended a conference on entomology forensics technology aimed at improving criminal investigations.

The 1st Borneo Conference on Entomology Forensics attracted high ranking police officers, firefighters, lawyers, judges and forensic doctors.

The first of its kind ever held in Sarawak, three papers were presented by experts.

The papers were ‘Understanding Post Death Changes and their Relationship with the duration of death’ and ‘Introduction of Forensic Entomology by Dr Norliza Ibrahim, and ‘Expert Practical on Forensic Entomology at the Scene’ by Robin Maramat.

Entomology is an important branch of study to determine the duration of death of decomposed bodies and also from insects.

The application of entomology forensic technology will support and strengthen its scientific development, policing and firefighting community in the course of their criminal investigations.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan officiated at the closing last Saturday (Jan 15).
