12 foreigners rounded up in immigration raids

The foreigners being arrested by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit in a series of operations held around the district.

KUCHING: A series of immigration operations conducted around the district yesterday (Apr 17), has resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals of various foreign nationalities.

The Sarawak Immigration Department said that the raids were conducted at workshops, factories, commercial premises and eateries around Gita, Sungai Maong and Batu Kawa.

Acting on public tip-offs and weeks of intelligence gathering, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit inspected the documentations of 38 individuals at the four targeted locations.

Of the figure, 12 foreigners were taken into custody for overstaying and lacking valid travel documents.

All foreign detainees are being investigated under Section 6(1)(C) and Section 15(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

In light of this, the public is urged to report any information on the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through established channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
