MIRI: Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) has awarded 135 students from selected secondary schools in the state under its Young Achievers Award (YAA) 2021/2022.

SOP recently travelled across different regions such as Lambir, Niah, Suai, Marudi, Sebauh, Tatau, Sungai Asap and Balingian to visit participating schools to make the handover.

SOP handed over cash awards and certificates of recognition to the students who have excelled in their academic pursuits in 2021 public examinations namely Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM).

“With the firm belief and emphasis on the importance of education, we awarded these students who are deserving to inspire and motivate local youngsters towards academic excellence,” it said in a statement yesterday.

Through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, SOP said it continues to focus on motivating, encouraging, and promoting education among the young generation in the rural areas.

SOP added that a concerted effort has been made especially in lending a helping hand to the needy children and motivate them to become high achieving students as well as set them on a path to appreciate continuous learning.

“We do not only focus on oil palm business, but we also aim to grow together with the local communities by helping them through various CSR initiatives in education outreach.

“The YAA is one of our many CSR projects including Students Adoption Programme (SAP), SOP Vision Care Project and SOP-Get Equip’d Rehabilitation Programme in collaboration with Healthy Strides Foundation,” it said.

SOP said all of the CSR projects are the catalyst for it to grow together with the local communities.
