KOTA SAMARAHAN: 450 degree graduates and 1050 diploma graduates are receiving their scrolls from UiTM Sarawak Branch at this year’s convocation.
The 88th convocation is being held at Jubli Hall, UiTM Kota Samarahan. The two-day event, which ends today, is graced by the UiTM Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama (Dr) Arshad Ayub.
“Congratulations to the graduates. Today is a remarkable moment for the graduates as well as their families who are attending the ceremony,
“Now you (graduates) have become the alumni, my advice to you is to maintain the good name of UiTM and pay back the contributions and sacrifices of your families.
“Be more disciplined and sharpen your ability in communication, especially in the English language so that it will be easier for you to find jobs in future,” Arshad told the graduates.
On hand to receive the scroll on behalf of his son, Alan Abang Udin who passed away in August last year, was Abang Udin Ak Mumien. The Sport Studies Diploma student drowned at Jangkar Waterfall in Lundu during an outing with his colleagues. “I feel sad but I am still grateful that even though Alan is not with us anymore, he has made us proud with his achievements.
“He was the third among four siblings. Two days before the convocation, we thought of him and cried because we missed him.
“The night before he died, he told my wife he was registering for a degree course at UiTM Shah Alam.,” said Udin.
In conjunction with the convocation, there is a fiesta which features numerous activities such as food sales, a run, a ghost house exhibition, a painting exhibition and a cultural night showcasing local actor/singer, Harris Baba.
