MIRI: Some 15,000 people are expected to turn up for the Sarawak Governor’s 83rd birthday parade here this Saturday.

State Secretary Datuk Jaul Samion disclosed this to a group of local media after witnessing a rehearsal for the parade yesterday.

A total of 106 contingents comprising 5,000 participants are involved in the parade. A full dress rehearsal will be held at 8am today.

Protocol and Event Management Unit (Chief Minister’s Department) director Azlan Abdum Badri said several new elements would be included in this year’s event.

“There will be performances between the parade, and during the dinner reception, His Excellency and guests will be entertained to an orchestra performance,” said Azlan.

Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip will witness today’s full dress rehearsal.

An array of programmes have been lined up in conjunction with the birthday celebration of Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud this Saturday.

Among the activities are a ‘Dirgahayu’ exhibition, Konsert Rakyat and a tea reception.
