ENGKILILI: A teenage boy died on the spot after the car he was in collided with a lorry parked by the roadside along Jalan Sri Aman-Sarikei this morning (Dec 13).
The victim is identified as Bong Kuet Leong, 16.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that the accident involving a Proton Saga and a parked lorry laden with construction materials happened around 8.35 am in front of SK Sedarat.
Firemen from Betong station together with the police, paramedics and People’s Volunteer Corp (Rela) were dispatched to the scene.
On arrival, they found the boy still trapped in the front passenger seat.
Extrication works were promptly carried out and the victim, who sustained severe injuries, was brought out of the car at 9.30 am.
Paramedics confirmed that the victim died at the scene and his body was handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the driver, whose identity is not known, was rescued out of the car by passers-by and taken to the hospital by paramedics.
