LIMBANG: About 17 areas in the district have been identified as having potential to be developed as tourist hotspots.

The district will thus continue to be developed, especially in its tourism potential so as to draw more tourists here, said Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail.
Abdul Rahman, who said the 17 areas were identified by the Limbang District Council, pointed to Limbang’s strategic location.

It shares the international border (Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia-Indonesia), states (Sarawak-Sabah and Sarawak-Labuan Federal Territory), and also districts (Limbang-Lawas and Limbang-Miri).
“Limbang is in the middle, like an island where international tourists can enter through Brunei and return through Miri or Sabah.

“One of the tourism potentials that we have is Mount Buda which can compete with Mount Mulu. It is not yet fully open to the public. The government is building a road to the mountain,” he was quoted as saying in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).

He said this when representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at the 2023 Chinese New Year Celebration in the Limbang Civic Centre here on Saturday.

Abdul Rahman who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman said a 1.8km long esplanade, the longest in Sarawak, is also being built in the town to draw visitors.

“The state government will also build the Medamit Esplanade and the Esplanade Project in Rangau which is opposite the Integrated Administrative Centre (IAC) Limbang.

“Meanwhile, the government is adding parking spaces at Limbang Public Park which is adjacent to Limbang Plaza or the Padang LDC area.

“The facility can accommodate more than 200 vehicles and we plan to accommodate guests in this area on Thursday and Friday,” he added.

Abdul Rahman also announced an allocation of RM20,000 for the organising of the Chinese New Year celebration.
Also present were the Sarawak Chinese Association Federation President Datuk Richard Wee, Acting Limbang District Officer Hamidah Halpi and others.
