Police carrying out the social distancing and SOP compliance inspection to eateries on Monday (Aug 10).

KUCHING: Seventeen individuals were issued with a RM1,000 compound each for failing to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Monday (Aug 10).

District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said during the first inspection in BDC market, the patrol team spotted four men who were not wearing any face mask.

“Whereas for the second inspection, five individuals comprising three men and two women, did not practise social distancing in a bistro at Jalan Song.

“For another inspection in an eatery in King Centre, ten individuals,namely nine men and a woman, failed to practise social distancing.

“Inspections found that two of the nine men are Indonesians and were immediately arrested.Investigations revealed that one of them had overstayed his duration in Malaysia while, another failed to show valid legal travel documents,” he said in a statement.

He added that all the locals who violated the SOPs, were compounded in accordance with the Regulation 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) (No 7) Regulations 2020.

Whereas for the arrested Indonesians, investigation papers are opened under Section 269 of the Penal Code, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2002) and Regulation 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) (No 7) Regulations 2020.

Awang Din said the individuals were given a 14-day period from the date of the compound to pay up their fines at Kuching division health office.

“Stern actions should be taken against premise operators who still fail to provide all such items.

“Police are currently monitoring and conducting inspections, which will be intensified to curb any possible re-transmission of Covid-19,” he stated.
