KUCHING: 17 finalists of the Dayung Gawea Tematu 2017 will be vying to win the title at Kpg Tematu on 24 June, 2017.
The beauty competition is held in conjunction with the Gawai Tematu 2017 carnival.
Batu Kitang state assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang will be the guest of honour at the competition.
The talent night will be held on 23 June, 2017 at 7.30pm.
Dayung Gawea Tematu 2017 will bring home RM1,600 cash, a bouquet, a sash, a trophy, a hamper and a certificate.
The first runner-up will receive RM1,300.00 cash, a bouquet, a sash, a trophy, a hamper and a certificate while the second runner-up will go home with RM1,000.00 cash, a bouquet, a sash, a trophy, a hamper and a certificate. Meanwhile, the consolation prize winners will bring back RM100.00 cash, a hamper and a certificate each.
Five subsidiary titles are up for grabs – Miss Talent, Miss Popularity, Miss Personality, Miss Photogenic, Miss Popularity, and Best Costume. The winner of each subsidiay title will receive RM200 cash, a trophy and a sash.
All the finalists have the opportunity to learn about the Bidayuh traditional activities such as Ngisar Podi (grinding padi), Ninis Boras, Mos Tubi Daang Dowon (wrapping rice inside a leaf) and Anyam Ketupat.
Special prizes will be offered to the public who come to watch the finale of Dayung Gawea Tematu by wearing the traditional costumes of the Ibans, Bidayuhs and Orang Ulu. There will be prizes for the best dressed man and woman of the night.
The Gawai Tematu 2017 carnival takes place on 23 and 24 June, 2017. Various activities have been drawn up for the public, namely, a blood donation campaign, a traditional costume competiton for children, a traditional instrument competition, food sales and performances by At Adau Band.
