KANOWIT: A landslide has occurred behind a 21-door longhouse at Nanga Tada Resettlement Scheme here today morning.

However, no injuries or casualties were reported among the residents of Rh Jelai Kana.

Kanowit Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Arrahman Chik said firemen from Kanowit station were despatched to the scene after receiving a message from Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana at around 11 am.

On arrival, the team confirmed that the incident only happened at the back area of the longhouse, with an estimated area of 300×100 feet, involving the kitchen and bathroom.

“The soil erosion occurred early in the morning at about 4 am,” he said in a statement yesterday.

No evacuation operation was carried out as they only monitored the situation.

The firemen also covered the affected areas with canvas to prevent residents from going near the scene.

The longhouse folks are advised to be careful and alert the authorities if it happens again.
