KUCHING: Sarawakian have been reminded to learn from past experience when Pakatan Harapan (PH) ruled as the government for 22 months and not to repeat the same “mistake” in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that under the PH government then, many approved projects were cancelled.
“Last election, what PH promised was not fulfilled. Even the projects that had been approved by the previous government (Barisan Nasional or BN) before were also withdrawn.
“Therefore, this is a lesson to Sarawakian. As the Malay saying goes ‘pisang tak berbuah dua kali’ (lightning never strikes twice),” he said.
He said this at a press conference after officiating at the launch of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) GE15 Manifesto at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night (Nov 6).
Abang Johari, who is also the GPS chairman, added the state needs good collaboration with the federal government.
“GPS, although we are independent politically, we also want a very strong federal government because for the past few years we have wasted our time for nothing.
“We should concentrate on policy implementation that will help the people,” he said.
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president also said that in the next two years, there might be a global recession and hence, effective policies to improve the economy must be put in place.
“At the same time, we must make sure that people have food on the table,” he stressed.
He added that Sarawak within the past four years has been able to strengthen its financial position and is able to implement projects across the state for its people.
“And what is listed out in our manifesto will be implemented in the next five years as we head towards a developed state by 2030,” said Abang Johari.
