MIRI: A total of 22 students from SMK Lopeng Tengah who excelled in their SPM examinations last year have received cash incentives from Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
The incentive presentation ceremony, which took place at the school hall last Friday, saw Lee personally presenting the incentives to the students.
He emphasised that in line with Sarawak’s current trajectory, the state is actively seeking ways to inspire students to excel academically, and one such approach involves providing cash incentives to reward and encourage their achievements.
“Out of the 131 students who took the SPM 2022 exams, 22 students distinguished themselves by achieving 5As and above. This is a noteworthy achievement.
“I hope this incentive will motivate other students who will be sitting for the same examinations to also do their best,” he said during the presentation ceremony here on Friday.
Elaborating further, the Senadin assemblyman underscored the pressing need in Sarawak for a robust pool of human capital equipped with knowledge and skills that align with the state’s strategic directions.
“Sarawak under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is gearing towards digital economy and green energy. We will soon need experts in these fields to address future challenges.
“Sarawak’s future depends on the youth today,” he stressed.
The incentives amounted to RM6,100 with nine students with 5As receiving RM900 each, four students with 6As (RM800 each), two students with 7As (RM600 each), five students with 8As (RM2,500 total), one student with 9As (RM600), and one student with 10As (RM700).
Also present at the ceremony were the school’s principal Yew Kok Wing and Parent-Teacher Association representative Spaeii Julai.
