SIMANGGANG: A total of 2,200 litres of diesel in 11 barrels alongside a lorry were seized for alleged involvement in misappropriation of controlled and subsidised goods.

Chief district enforcement officer of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sri Aman Branch Al Redzamani Abdul Razak said, this is a case handover from the General Operations Force (PGA) after the lorry driver failed to show any permission letter or licence and permit when inspected.

“The inspection found that there were 2,200 litres of diesel in 11 barrels estimated to be worth RM4,730 in the white Toyota lorry which was estimated to be worth more than RM40,000.

“This brings the value of the seizures to RM44,730 made under the Control of Supplies Act (AKB) 1961 to identify the source of supply,” he said when contacted, today.

As such an investigation has been opened and further investigation into this case will be made under the Act.

In this regard, he added, KPDNHEP gave a stern warning to any petrol station operator or wholesale company in the Sri Aman Division and Betong Division, including Saratok District, to comply with the law.

“Individuals who commit offences can be prosecuted under AKB 1961 (Act122) and if convicted, can be fined not more than RM1 million while for subsequent offences not exceeding RM3 million for an individual or imprisonment not exceeding three years or both.

“Meanwhile, for companies if convicted, they can be fined not more than RM2 million, while for subsequent offences not more than RM5 million,” he said.

Al Redzamani added that the community members are advised to be the eyes and ears of the authorities by providing cooperation if they have any information on the activities of misappropriation of controlled and subsidised goods, especially fuel such as diesel.

This, he added, is to ensure that these illegal activities can be eradicated at the grassroots level because it can have a negative impact on the people and the country.
