SARIKEI: Nearly 700 needy primary and secondary school students here will receive new school bags.

The new bags were donated by Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii and were symbolically handed over to some of the recipients at the Repok Service Centre on Sunday (Mar 6).

Huang called upon the students to continue to do well in their studies and not let poverty be an obstacle to succeed in life.

“Thus, I hope the new bags will put them in the spirit to study smart,” he said.

In another development, Huang visited the proposed construction of a Sarikei Buddhist Orthodox Association pagoda.

He said the first phase of construction had commenced on Sunday (Mar 6).

“Under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund for 2021 and 2022, a total of RM200,000 has been allocated for the construction of the pagoda,” he said.

Later, Huang also made several work visits to locations such as the Nyelong Hawkers Centre, Jalan Industri in Sarikei, Terminal 1 Sarikei Wharf and St Anthony’s Church.
