25 finalists shortlisted for video contest

KUCHING:  A total of 25 finalists were shortlisted for the Old Kuching Heritage short video contest which began on Sept 28 and ended on Nov 30. 

The competition was divided into two main categories- Professional and Student.

Registration of  the Old Kuching Heritage short video contest was via #KuchingKampungHeritage websitewww.www.kuchingkampungheritage.my which was aimed at promoting Kuching City as a tourist destination spot.

The Old Kuching Heritage Initiative consisted of four components namely, Heritage Pool, Waterfront Heritage, Business Heritage and HeritageTrails.

Participants were free to come up with their own ideas to produce attractive videos not longer than three minutes based on the four components. All 25 videos were judged by a selected jury. 

Prizes worth RM23,500 were up for grabs in the contest. All winning videos will become the property of the Sarawak government.

The winner of the student category is Vivian Wong Yu Yin with  her video titled “myKuching”; she will receive a cash prize of RM5,000.

The first runner-up is Nurul Hikmah Begum Ali Sabri with her video title “Banke at Carpenter Street, Kuching!”; she will receive RM3,000. 

Elizerbeth Patterson wins the second runner-up spot with her video titled “Kuching Waterfront Heritage”; she will receive RM2,000.

Meanwhile, the winner of the professional category is Abang Azmi Reza Abang Abdul Rauf with his video titled “The Old Kuching Heritage Trail”; he will receive RM5,000. Second in the category is Brendan Goh Chuan Lung with his video titled “Old Kuching Heritage”; he will receive RM3,000.

Third in the category is Abdul Muliadi Abdul Mulluk with his video titled “Tudung Keringkam”; he  will receive RM2,000.

The seven other participants, namely, Mohd Shahrin Bakar, Sharveswary A/P Malaiyalam, Aylwin Lim, Mohd Shahmin Sahari, Vanden Michael, Syahnur Asyikin Kee Charles and Elang Mohd Saferinor will receive a consolation prize of RM500 each. 

The Old Kuching Heritage Initiative is the joint effort of the state government and  Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) to develop a platform that can support and increase socio-economic community values in Sarawak, especially around Kuching City through support and infrastructure systems based on technology.

It is one of the initiatives under the Sarawak’s Digital Economy strategy for  2018-2022,  designed and established with the vision of making Kuching City  a world heritage tourism site as well as attracting tourists either domestic, national or international.
