KUCHING: The Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry has recommended that the forestry policies of Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak be bound together in one book without changing their contents.

Its Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar said as the three regions have their respective forestry policies, it would be more systematic to put them together for ease of reference.

“There will be no change in the policies. We just want to bind the three separate policies, so that when we deal with forestry matters as one country, we can use the book in our mission. This is our main agenda, and nothing else,” he said.

Dr Xavier said this during a press conference after paying a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at the former’s office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia, yesterday.

The compilation of the documents is still being discussed by the parties concerned.

When asked if the chief minister was open to his suggestion, he said, “There is an informal agreement, but he (Abang Johari) will get back to me.”
Apart from getting recommendation on the Malaysian Forestry Policy (part of which is the compilation of the forestry policies), he said other matters discussed were how to better manage water, land and natural resources in the state.
