37 to take part in recital competition

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud on Monday received a courtesy visit from the 62nd Tilawah and Menghafaz Al-Quran recital committees at Demak Jaya here.

The visit, which was led by Yang Dipertua of Sarawak Islamic Council(MIS) Datuk Misnu Tuha, was to inform him on the organisation of the event besides inviting Taib to officiate at the prizegiving ceremony to winners of the programme.

It will be held on March 15 until March 18 at Dewan Suarah, Bintulu.

A total of 37 contestants consisting of eight male and 10 female hafazan,11 Qari and eight Qariah will be taking part in the event, representing nine districts in Sarawak.

The event will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Also present during the courtesy visit was Sarawak Mufti Datuk Kipli Yasin, director of Sarawak Islamic Department (JAIS) Khalidi Ibrahim, deputy resident of Bintulu Abang Zainuddin Abang Turkey and other guests.
