SIBU: Sibu Foochow Association (SFA) yesterday held a mass wedding ceremony with 39 couples tying their knot at SFA’s premises in Jalan Salim here.

The mass ceremony which was conducted by SFA’s assistant registrar of marriage, Lau Pick Tai was witnessed by the National Registration Department (JPN) Sibu’s senior assistant registration officer, Margarete Jenny Thomas and assistant registration officer, Nurasy Ikin Aziz.

When officiating at the ceremony as the guest-of-honour, SFA’s life honorary chairman, Albert Lau pointed out that Sept 9 was a very special day for the Chinese-speaking community.

“The double nine in Mandarin symbolises longevity and considered an auspicious date. Thus I hope everyone of you will love your spouse forever to keep a harmonious and everlasting happy life.

Albert said this auspicious occasion reminded him of the date when he married his wife 43 years ago. On that date, he reminisced holding her hands and pledged that they would grow old together, adding that was also the happiest moment of his life.
