41 suspects arrested and 35 stolen vehicles recovered in Kuching police crackdown on vehicle theft

KUCHING: IPD Kuching had successfully arrested 41 suspects and recovered 35 stolen vehicles under its ‘Op Bersepadu Lejang Khas’ carried out by five of its Counter Aggressive Team (CAT).

According to Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah, the said operation which was launched from Aug 9 to Sept 14 consisted of 195 personnel and 15 officers.

He added that it had carried out checks on 27,749 individuals including 349 juveniles and 11 foreigners.

“So far, a total of 31 investigation papers have been opened. Eleven of the cases have been charged in court, involving a total of 14 suspects.

“Six suspects were charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code for dishonestly receiving stolen property, and five suspects under Section 379A of the Penal Code for theft of a motor vehicle,” he said, adding that 12 cases will be brought to court in due time once investigations are completed.

With its success, he stated that IPD Kuching will continue the ‘Op Bersepadu Lejang Khas ’to tackle vehicle theft.

“For that, we welcome the public to inform any information regarding suspicious activities by passing the information on to the nearest police station,” he said.
