KOTA SAMARAHAN: 4,120 graduates yesterday received their scrolls during the 21st convocation ceremony of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) at DeTAR Putra, Unimas here. The graduates comprised 3,676 pre-graduates and 444 post-graduates ; 68 of the post-graduates were PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) holders while 378 were Master’s degree holders.
The four-day convocation ceremony, which started yesterday, was officiated by Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Taib Mahmud, who al so the Chancel lor of Unimas. Yesterday, Taib also presented the proclamation of Unimas Pro- Chancellor to Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“Congratulations to graduates on your success and congratulations also to parents as well as the academicians and Unimas staff for assisting the graduates during their studies,” said Taib in his text of speech.
Meanwhile, Unimas Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, in his speech, said: “This is the time for you to contribute back to your family and people with the knowledge you have gained. If you have the opportunity to further your studies, Unimas welcomes your presence,” he added.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, former Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Alfred Jabu Numpang and Chai rman of Unimas Board of Director, Datu Hatta Solhi.
