42 slapped with compounds for SOP breach

KUCHING: Police issued 42 compounds to errant individuals for failing to comply with the movement control order (MCO) 3.0 standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Sunday (May 30).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Bintulu recorded the most compounds with 20, followed by Dalat (eight), Kota Samarahan (six), Kuching (four), Kapit (three), and Sarikei (one).

“The violations include gathering with more than three persons in public places (14); exceeding the vehicle passenger limit (10); failure to practice physical distancing and consuming alcohol together (six); being inside a hair salon (six); violating the time curfew without valid reasons (three); failing to wear a face mask (one); failing to record the time when entering a premises (one); and failing to count the number of customers inside a premises (one).

“This brings the total amount of compounds issued since March 18 last year to 6,939.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing issued 21 compounds to business operators of premises under the supervision of various local councils.

Bintulu Development Authority recorded the highest compounds with five; followed by four under Bau District Council; three under Miri City Council; two each under Kota Samarahan Municipal Council and Meradong and Julau District Council; and one each under Sibu Rural District Council, Sarikei District Council, Padawan Municipal Council, Kuching South City Council, and Lawas District Council.

SDMC added that the businesses violated SOPs such as failing to update the customer logbooks (eight); failing to scan the MySejahtera app (six); not functioning thermometer device (two); operating without permission (two); exceeding the vehicle passenger limit (two); and failing to enforce wearing face masks (one).

This brought the total amount of compounds issued by local authorities since Feb 1 this year to 834.
