Three killed, four seriously injured in collision

SRI AMAN: Three people were killed and four others were seriously injured in an accident involving two cars near the Maruk Quarry at the Sri Aman-Engkilili Road, yesterday (May 25).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said today they received a distress call at 6.38 pm yesterday and deployed a team of members from the Sri Aman fire station to the scene.

“Upon arrival, they came across two vehicles collided into each other, a sedan and a compact hatchback.

“The firemen found the four victims trapped inside a compact hatchback vehicle; two victims identified as Pauline Simba Jua, 34, and Carlos Nelson, 22, were pronounced dead by the paramedics at the scene, while another victim, Elizabeth Jua, 33, succumbed to injuries during treatment at the Engkilili Health Clinic and the fourth passenger was seriously injured,” the spokesman said in a statement.

Bomba had to extricate the driver and a passenger in the compact hatchback vehicle using a rescue tool, while the other two were rescued by members of the public and were sent to the nearest hospital.

Meanwhile, the three victims in the sedan vehicle suffered serious injuries, and were brought to the hospital by a Bomba Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) and Ministry of Health ambulance.

The operation also involved the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and Naim Gamuda.
