KUCHING: Five schools in Sarawak were targets of bomb hoax threats this week.

Three schools in Kuching and two in Miri, reported the same threats, which were received via email from Nov 21 to 23.

The affected institutions comprising two national schools, two private schools, and one international school, promptly reported the threats to the police.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata told a press conference that the threats were sent from three email accounts – ‘Takstorrer’, ‘Tunzodev’, and ‘Tunzowashere’.

Upon receiving the reports, the police collaborated with the schools and ensured the swift evacuation of students and staff.

“Security flushing was meticulously conducted by police bomb squads at all corners of the premises.

“Fortunately, no bombs were detected.

“Investigations showed the email threats were fake, with no evidence supporting the alleged bomb risk in any school,” he told reporters at the Sarawak IPK this morning.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.
