SIBURAN: Around 500 cylinders of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) were provided in the ‘Jak Ta Nukar Tong Gas’ or Let’s Change Gas Cylinders programme today.

The event, held at the Siburan Community Hall, was organised under the People’s Care Programme as part of Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin’s initiative to assist the community in that area.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil emphasised the programme’s significance, stating that in addition to distributing PETROS LPG cylinders, they could address issues related to cylinder exchanges.

Dr Jerip, who is the Mambong assemblyman, explained the importance of clarifying concerns among the public, particularly regarding the exchange of green to red LPG cylinders, involving issues such as pricing and distribution.

“This is something that needs to be explained to the public, where the refill cost of a 14-kilogramme subsidised LPG cylinder for household use remains at RM26.60 for self-collection.

“Customers will not incur any additional charges to exchange cylinders. However, in rural areas, some retailers may impose a slightly higher fee to cover their transportation costs,” he said during the event.

The one-day programme, organised in collaboration with the Mambong constituency, ran from 9 am to 5 pm.

The initiative also offered a 2-kilogramme cooking oil giveaway for each PETROS LPG cylinder exchange, allowing each customer to exchange a maximum of three cylinders.

He further noted positive developments in the purchase or exchange of PETROS LPG cylinders in the Puncak Borneo constituency and Mambong state constituency.

“We also assure that there is no time limit imposed for exchanging existing LPG cylinders with PETROS among users, and the price will remain the same,” he added.

On the same note, Willie reported that approximately 40 customers had exchanged PETROS LPG cylinders by the morning of the event, and the programme proceeded smoothly, providing drive-through services.

He reaffirmed their readiness to assess other areas under the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency that may require the distribution of PETROS LPG cylinders based on demand.

“This depends on demand; if there are issues, we will certainly take appropriate action to assist the people,” he affirmed.
