52 SK Long Moh pupils compete for cross country honours

BARAM: The SK Long Moh cross country championship featured 52 pupils and involved a 3km route around a forest in the Long Moh area.

“The goal of the programme is to get school students to participate in sports activities and cultivate a sports culture among them.

“The first 15 competitors to finish the course will receive awards, and scores will be tallied for each sports house competing in the Tara Sports Championship,” said event coordinator Ariffine John.

Meanwhile, secretariat member Kenneth Asang said: “This event gives student exposure and unearth talents.

Among the roads used for the cross country event.

“Achievements aside, students also gain a variety of experiences such as social development, leadership in helping teachers manage a ceremony and self-discipline.”

The Tara Games is a sports tournament where each student is given the opportunity to contribute points or marks for their respective sports houses.

The Tara SK Long Moh Games are usually held after cross country activities and before the Annual Sports Day.

For the school level cross country championship, the five students selected were Julien Ajeng, 9, Hezron Bayak 10, Eliezer Tagang, 10, Caroline Eno, 11, and Sivanesan Pillay, 11.

At the district level, they will compete in the Baram District Education Office  Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah Rendah (MSSR) Sports Festival to be held from July 4-6.
