KUCHING : The Kuching Police District Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) launched “Op Khas Samseng Jalanan” on Sunday at the parking lot at Jalan Stadium here.
527 summonses were issued for various traffic offences; 221 of the summonses were for motorcyclists.
Kuching Police Chief, ACP Ng Ah Lek said three motorcyclists would be charged under section 42 (1) APJ 1987 for reckless driving. Two of them were racing and endangering the lives of other road users by performing dangerous demonstrations with their motorcycles.
The three motorcyclists have been handed over to the investigating officer for further investigation and if convicted under this section, they can be jailed for not less than five years and fined not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM15,000. The three suspects have also undergone a urine test and all tested negative.
Ng said 22 different types of modified motorcycles were also seized under section 60 (1) APJ 1987 for further inspection and action by BSPTD Kuching.
The Kuching Police Chief said the operation would be implemented from time to time to curb gangsterism and ensure order and peace for the people in Kuching District. He also advised parents and guardians to constantly monitor
their children’s activities.
